COVID-19 Update – Town of Deer Lake
December 2, 2020

Under the direction of the Town Council the Town of Deer Lake will be safely and gradually re-opening town operated buildings
beginning Saturday, December 5th, 2020
.

Temporary closed for two weeks, the Hodder Memorial Recreation Centre will reopen to the public
on Saturday, December 5th, 2020
. User groups for the recreation centre are reminded to review the safety measures that has been previously established for arenas as outlined on the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador COVID-19 website.

The Deer Lake Town Office will resume operations
on Monday, December 7th, 2020
with staff returning to the office.

Businesses in Deer Lake that were asked to cease regular operations can now begin to reopen based upon their own unique considerations and time that may be required to reopen.

Businesses along with users of the arena are reminded of the Special Measures Order regarding the mandatory use of masks for indoor settings, subject to the exceptions that were outlined in the Special Measures Order on August 24th, 2020.

The Town of Deer Lake would be remised if they did not thank the residents of Deer Lake for stepping up to the challenge of reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our community.  The compassion and empathy shown to those most affected was remarkable and speaks to the kind-hearted nature of the residents in Deer Lake.

The Deer Lake Town Council would like to relay their gratitude to staff at Western Health and Newfoundland and Labrador English School District over the past two weeks.

The  cooperation of the Premier and Chief Medical Officer of Health has been outstanding, their assistance and guidance through these very difficult days for residents of Deer Lake has not been forgotten.

“The cooperation and dedication of Deer Lake residents in controlling the spread of this virus in our community is truly remarkable. This virus has changed our daily lives significantly,  this surely hasn’t been an easy time for anyone.  I am confident that our united commitment and community spirit will carry us forward as we deal with the COVID-19 virus”.
