Weather Warnings
10:46 AM NST Friday 07 January 2022
Winter storm warning in effect for:
Deer Lake – Humber Valley
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.
Total snowfall: generally 15 to 35 cm
Maximum wind gusts: northeast to northwesterly near 80 km/h
Locations: western and interior Newfoundland, Burgeo-Ramea
Time span: late this afternoon through Saturday afternoon.
Remarks: Snow will begin in southern Newfoundland late this afternoon and progress northeastward, becoming heavy, at times, this evening and overnight. Strong winds will develop tonight and combine with new fallen snow to reduce visibility in blowing snow. Blizzard-like conditions may be experienced over some areas.
Conditions are expected to improve by late Saturday afternoon as snow tapers to flurries. Strong winds may persist into the evening.
Non-essential travel is not recommended at this time, and alternate arrangements should be made where possible.
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.
Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
