Heritage Researcher/Writer Intern

The Town of Deer Lake is a community of 5,250 on Newfoundland’s west coast in close proximity to Gros Morne National Park and the City of Corner Brook. It is the location of a major regional airport.

In collaboration with the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Young Canada Works Program, the town seeks a Heritage Researcher/Writer Intern for a period from November 1, 2021-March 31, 2022 to undertake research on the town’s historic downtown commercial area and the historic dam and powerhouse complex and to engage stakeholders and the community in a conversation about opportunities for commemoration and tourism development.

The position, with a rate of pay is $20/h, will be located in the Town of Deer Lake. Candidates should have excellent research and writing skills, must be recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program in a field such as history, architecture, folklore, cultural geography, or similar field, and meet all of the eligibility requirements under the Young Canada Works program (Ages 16-30). Training and experience in GIS is an asset. Preference will be given to candidates resident in Newfoundland and Labrador.
