Freezing rain warning in effect for:
 
Deer Lake – Humber Valley
Freezing rain is expected or occurring.
 
Locations: western and central Newfoundland.
 
Time span: this afternoon and this evening.
 
Remarks: The freezing rain will transition to rain tonight as temperatures rise above freezing. Freezing rain may redevelop Saturday night.
 
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
 
Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Rainfall warning in effect for:
 
Deer Lake – Humber Valley
Rain, heavy at times is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.
 
Total rainfall: 20 to 45 mm.
 
Locations: western and central Newfoundland.
 
Time span: overnight tonight until Sunday evening.
 
Remarks: Precipitation will being as snow or freezing rain later today before transitioning to rain by midnight tonight. The rain will combine with strong southerly winds and mild temperatures to cause significant snowmelt.
 
Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
 
Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Special weather statement in effect for:
 
Deer Lake – Humber Valley
Snow, blowing snow, and strong winds are expected.
 
Total snowfall: 15 to 30 cm overnight Saturday through Sunday.
 
Maximum wind gusts: westerly 70 to 100 km/h Saturday night into Sunday.
 
Locations: western and central Newfoundland.
 
Time span: Saturday night until Sunday evening.
 
Remarks: After a period of rain and mild temperatures, winds will shift to westerly and strengthen Saturday night, causing temperatures to plummet as the rain changes to snow. Flurries, snow squalls, strong winds, and blowing snow will give blizzard-like conditions to most areas on Sunday.
 
Conditions should begin to improve Sunday night.
