⚠️ Weather Advisory – Deer Lake

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Heavy snow with freezing precipitation and strong winds are expected.

Locations: western, central, and parts of northeastern Newfoundland, as well as the higher terrain along the Burgeo Highway.

Total snowfall: 15 to 30 cm with locally higher amounts possible.

Freezing rain duration: 3 to 7 hours.

Total freezing rain amounts: 2 to 5 mm with 10 mm locally.

Maximum wind gusts: southeasterly 50 km/h, except 80 to 100 km/h along parts of the coast in locally enhanced downslope flow.

Time span: tonight and Thursday.

Remarks: After several hours of snow, at times heavy, the snow will transition to a mixture of snow and ice pellets Thursday morning. Precipitation will then transition to several hours of freezing rain, before finally changing to rain or showers by Thursday afternoon or evening.

Additional snowfall accumulations are possible on Friday with the passage of a cold front.

🚗 Travel Advisory:

Roads and walkways will likely become difficult to navigate, particularly during the freezing rain period. Residents should consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

🌧 Help Prevent Flooding:

If possible, please clear nearby catch basins or drainage around your property to help keep water flowing as temperatures rise.

Town crews will be monitoring conditions and deploying equipment as needed for snow clearing, sanding, and managing runoff.
