The Town of Deer Lake will collaborate with Transport Canada to develop a Boating Safety Plan for the Town. The two parties met last week to discuss the various elements of the plan. It is anticipated that in April, sessions will be planned with local schools and the Deer Lake Ground Search and Rescue Team. In addition, efforts will be made to hold a stakeholders meeting. A second series of meetings, planned for May, will see a public meeting held to inform local residents about various aspects of boating safety. The plan also includes on-water patrols during the summer. Among the issues to be developed during this process is the integration of safe boating practises, along with the requirement that all boats be licenced.
