Deer Lake residents are reminded that starting Monday, October 29, 2018, no more black garbage bags will be collected from residences. The Town has gone to a two-stream system in which recycling is placed in blue bags and waste in clear bags. This waste must be sorted. All residents have had two weeks to comply with the new regulations. Any black bags which are placed at curb side will not be picked up and stickers will be put on the bags telling residents why they weren’t picked up.
The Town is beginning the process of sorting out commercial waste collection. Until further notice, home-based businesses must use their residential bins and sort with their household waste. Apartments with four or more units with be considered commercial and will not have to sort. Apartments with three or less units will be considered residential if they do not have a communal waste bin and waste can be identified to each unit. This may change with new policies being developed.
