June 22, 2018 - All Day
On June 22, three organizations — PTSD Buddies, Spartan Wellness and the Tema Conter Memorial Trust — will visit Deer Lake as part of a province-wide tour to raise awareness about mental illnesses, including PTSD. The groups will hold a barbecue at the Royal Canadian Legion in Deer Lake, starting at on Friday, June 22. The groups are travelling around the islands, meeting people with mental illness or injury, their families, and co-workers. On their travels they will be stopping at locations like fire halls, police departments, shelters, hospitals, or any place that may have someone dealing with a mental illness or injury. They will be talking with these people, hearing their stories and helping them get their stories heard. Then they will be inviting all those they meet to join them at different Royal Canadian Legions across the island for a meet and greet BBQ. During the BBQ you will hear from each organization as they explain what assistance they can offer to those affected. PTSD Buddies works as an online support for people dealing with mental illness. Spartan Wellness specializes in providing access to medical cannabis. The Tema Conter Memorial Trust works in PTSD education and support.
